2018 Manganui Hub and Leadership Reflection
This year has been a massive year for me both personally and professionally.
The change to a new school and new responsibilities has been very refreshing. It has been difficult for me to 're-set' and settle into a new environment. I have come from a high numbers, high pressure school to a small, happy and supportive culture.
The Manganui Hub has been something that Jen, Emily and I can be very proud of. We worked really well together and collaboratively plan, teach and report. We have made a great team! We get each other, take the pressure off one another when needed and we know our kids well. We have had major success with our students both academically and socially through having a great Must-Do, Can-Do learning culture. Our students have voice and choice in all that we do, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what these kids are capable of when they are Year 8! I know it will be exciting!
I have learnt a lot about being a collaborative leader this year. Rich, Jess and I work together well. It has been awesome to learn about budgets, annual/strategic planning, SENCO, reporting systems, leading meetings and leading the appraisal and inquiry processes. I feel I will be capable Acting Principal in Term 4 2019 thanks to all the support and guidance that Rich has given me.
My leadership skills have grown from being singular to being part of a strong leadership team.
I'm looking forward to growing these skills more in 2019.

Ongoing Study
I find myself stuck in rut at present. Trying to find where I fit and what I want to actually 'do' in education.
I have taken on so much extra study over the past 4 years and have found my true passion lies in innovation and supporting and coaching teachers and other leaders.
Being part of the Kahui Ako has possibly opened another door for me to continue to complete my Masters Degree and make connections with accredited facilitators so I can continue to pursue my career interests.
Current Goals:
Making Connections
Exploring Study Opportunities
I shared an essay I wrote last year to the Kahui Ako Drive. The 4000 word essay was a Literature Review comparing the importance of management vs leadership in education.
The following email is a respsonse from Jo Wilson (Leading Learning Facilitator) who read it:
This email really excited me! I will continue to consider what the future may hold for my career in education! WATCH THIS SPACE!
17 September
-Interview with MindLab has been scheduled to complete my Masters in Contemporary Education for next year....Still in limbo...Will see how the interview goes. Do I stay, or pursue something else???
28 November 2018
Accepted for MindLab's Masters Degree. Am now 2 months in and LOVING it!

Kaimata School Hangi
Our school hosted a hangi for our school and the Kaimata Community at the end of Term 2.
Planning for the hangi was done by Marcelle (Kapa Haka Teacher), Jess and myself. I also did the 'shopping' part for the school.
Preparation for the hangi was lead by Jess and myself (for the vege prep).
We had over 300 members of our community attend our hangi. It was a huge success for everyone involved!

Kaimata Curriculum
Kaimata Curriculum
Above is a link to the Kaimata Curriculum that has been lead by myself and Jess Packman. After our ERO visit (March, 2018) and leading MLP PD with the staff, we were all in agreeance that we need to formulate a Curriculum Map for the school to ensure NZC and Key Competency coverage. The Kaimata Curriuculm has also been designed with our special school character, collaborative and innovative teaching and learning in mind. We used teacher voice, student voice and community voice to create the possible contexts for learning.

Modern Learning Practice PD
Link to all the PD I am leading in regards to Innovative/Modern learning Practice at Kaimata.
There are shared Docs in this folder that I share with the staff so that input, thoughts and ideas are collaborative.
As we are working on designing our own MLP that will fit into the 'Kaimata Way' this will be ongoing as our ideas and PD evolves.
21st Century Learning Presentation
Slideshow from a presentation I lead to the Kaimata School PTA, BoT and Staff about MLP. With the hopes that the community will support the schools' shift in pedagogy and practice. The presentation went well, with buy-in from all of those that attended.

Teach Like a Pirate
Teach Like a Pirate
Teach Like a Pirate-Dave Burgess
My first Leadership role at Kaimata is to lead the staff through the book 'Teach like a Pirate'. The purpose for this Professional Development is to support teachers on their journey towards innovative and collaborative teaching and learning.
We will be working through the book together, unpacking the chapters together and sharing how we will work towards achieving quality teaching and learning for all at Kaimata using the PIRATE acronym in doing so.
